What is dForce in Daz Studio and Daz dforce surface material preset?
What is dForce in Daz Studio? dForce is a physics simulation engine that is included with Daz Studio 4.10 and higher. Personally, I love working with dForce and the cloth simulation is very realistic. For many unfortunately it is tricky due to explosions. Whenever working with dForce it is important to hide all items that could collide with the object and cause explosion. However, this post is not about how dForce works.
I started the tedious process to learn how to create my own clothing. When simulating the cloth, certain settings are used which can be found in the surface panel of the clothing item. They are normally displayed below the material surface settings. I needed to make changes on how the cloth is behaving when simulating and could not find the place where to actually save a Daz dforce surface preset. I Googled but could only find information about the actual simulation settings.
Saving a dForce surface Material preset in Daz Studio.
To be honest, now that I know how to do it, it is actually logical and quite straight forward. I am going to detail it in this post in case somebody else encounters the same problem. If you need to make a clothing item looser or tighter, then you would do it in the the Surface Pane as illustrated in the above image.
How to save the preset only for a change in the dForce setting? It works exactly the same way as saving a material setting. The only difference is that you do not select all the items when saving the material preset.
File- Save As – Material Preset. Name the preset. In the Properties panel, select the material section that you want to change. Tick the Simulation option and all the dForce related items that you want to save.
You now have a Daz dForce surface material preset saved that can be distributed with your clothing or for personal use.
