Using the Iray Memory Assistant Script in Daz Studio.
Iray Memory Assistant is a Daz Studio script by SimTenero and available on the Daz Studio site. Like the word says, it is an assistant and not an Iray solution. What does the script do?
Rendering in Iray can be tricky and memory consuming. So many times I have rendered a scene and it seemed like Iray came to a complete halt and I was going nowhere. Cancel the scene? Close Daz and try again? Fact is that it is extremely frustrating.
This Iray script comes in handy because it analizes your scene and
displays information about the assets and generates estimates of available system and GPU memory.
How does the Iray Memory Assistant help to speed up Iray?
The script does not speed up Iray. It gives information about the memory hogging items in your scene and the user can make a calculated decision which items to drop. You could also change the sizes of the textures to make it less memory intensive. That is basically what it does.
Should this script be standard to Daz Studio?
The vendor, SimTenero, did a great job with this script. Obviously a need was identified and a script was written. Kudos! However, the question did arise if this should not be a standard on Daz? I guess so. Maybe in the future Daz would incorporate this into the hard-coding of the program but for now we can use this script to help identify the memory-hogging culprits and hopefully, render faster.
